Schoolhouse count hits the 30s!

Since PlayStation joined as the programme’s headline partner in 2016, enabling expansion of the programme throughout the UK, Digital Schoolhouse (DSH) has continued to grow; most recently acquiring two schools in different pockets of the UK, De La Salle College in Belfast and Millais School in Horsham.

De La Salle College is a Catholic School deriving its educational philosophy from Saint John Baptist de la Salle, welcoming boys of all abilities. The school aims to facilitate the transition from primary school to secondary level education for all their pupils.

Millais is recognised as a National Teaching School and runs the Millais Alliance to support schools across West Sussex and nationally. They are committed to seeking opportunities for improvement and raising the standard of teaching and learning in the classroom.  Millais have already delivered support for local Primary schools through the Sussex Science Learning Partnership and are looking forward to developing their offering through the Digital Schoolhouse project this year.  “We keenly recognise the importance of developing coding skills in younger students and see the DSH as an excellent vehicle for bringing this to our feeder Primaries.”

 The diversity and geographical position of these schools shows just how dynamic the programme is and the growing appetite for Creative Computing in the UK. These schools also reflect the strengthening presence of DSH; De La Salle College finding the programme through local teaching networks and Millais referred to the programme by the UK’s largest games studio, Creative Assembly, which is part of SEGA and based in Horsham.

Emma Smith, Talent Manager at Creative Assembly said;

"As part of our Legacy Project, Creative Assembly has been working with local schools for many years to educate and inspire the future game makers of tomorrow. It’s fantastic to now cement that work with Digital Schoolhouse, getting Creative Computing into classrooms and the curriculum across the country. We need to build the confidence of young people, from all backgrounds, and give them the skills to succeed in such a rewarding industry."
