Partner Spotlight: SEGA on supporting DSH

Author: sophia.aker

We feel incredibly privileged to be supported by passionate and generous industry partners, who have enabled us to reach thousands of pupils across the UK and make our vision of bridging the gap between education and industry a reality.

"Digital Schoolhouse represents a cause that the games industry has a responsibility to fulfil both ethically and practically; to help bridge the digital skills gap in the UK, simultaneously increasing the support and quality of computer science courses for students from a young age, and in turn future-proofing the games industry."

Today, we're in conversation with SEGA. SEGA is one of the world’s leading interactive entertainment companies and SEGA Europe, headquartered in London, is responsible for its six wholly owned development studios. SEGA publishes franchise like Total War from Creative Assembly, Football Manager from Sports Interactive and Two Point Hospital from the recently acquired Farnham based studio, Two Point Studios.

Why did you get involved with supporting the programme?

Digital Schoolhouse represents a cause that the games industry has a responsibility to fulfil both ethically and practically; to help bridge the digital skills gap in the UK, simultaneously increasing the support and quality of computer science courses for students from a young age, and in turn future-proofing the games industry. It’s for these reasons that SEGA wanted to get involved to show the industry and our teams, that we’re committed to helping Digital Schoolhouse achieve its goals.

What has been your favourite part of working with DSH?

Our favourite part of working with Digital Schoolhouse has been our involvement in their annual esports tournament. Being able to lend some of our staff to the Esports mentor programme and actively engage our team in Digital Schoolhouse’s ideals, being on the ground in schools giving the pupils the benefit of our expertise and passion for gaming, has been brilliant and we hope that we can further encourage our teams to get involved in other ways too.

What advice would you give other org’s who want to get involved in supporting grassroots education?

The best advice we can give is to engage your teams in Digital Schoolhouse’s initiatives and encourage them to actively support. Committing time away from the office can seem daunting but even just a small amount of involvement can lead to a huge amount of increased engagement from pupils and the feeling that as a business, you’re giving something back to the future of the games industry and education.
