International Mobo Game Jam returns to promote cleaner air through the power of play

Author: Laura Martin, Comms and Programme Manager

Mobo Game Jam returns for its second year and you're invited to take part.

We've teamed up with Kucheza Gaming to bring you another jam of global proportions, engaging children and teens with current climate issues.

Young innovators aged 8 - 18 years in the UK and Nigeria are challenged to create a games prototype within a team or as an individual. Creators are encouraged to combine creativity, compassion and computational thinking to find a solution to cleaner air across the globe.

It's about stage (not age)

There are three main entrant categories for each age group a) under 13 yrs and b) 13 + yrs. These categories are:

  • Newcomer
  • Intermediate
  • Advanced

We've focused on stage instead of age to encourage anyone at any level to make a game. Newcomer is the most accessible category through to Advanced which is the most challenging. For the Newcomer and Intermediate categories, entrants have the option to submit a digital prototype or a paper prototype.

Take our creator quiz to find out which category is right for you!

Each category (Newcomer, Intermediate sponsored by Construct 3, Advanced) has a different assessment criteria. The assessment criteria will be used by professional industry judges to mark entrants' work. The highest scoring prototypes will go through to the final showcase and the Global Winner will be voted for by our live audience. Watch last year's showcase.

Naturally, there's lots of goodies up for grabs including some epic cash prizes.

Free masterclasses

Along the way, creators will also receive free virtual masterclasses from experts in the field, to help improve their digital skills and careers education.
